Bryce canyon ride

We saw more grandeur and beauty than you can imagine on our visit to Bryce Canyon. The best way to see this beautiful canyon is up close and personal from the back of a horse. Like an exciting trip back through the eons of time, we enjoyed a close-up look at beautiful rock formations thousands of years in the making. These are formations on which wind & rain forever work their handicraft further sculpting and adding to the illusion of timelessness you can see in all of Bryce Canyon’s breathtaking beauty from horseback – man’s oldest (and most reliable) mode of transportation. Many people who were riding the trails of Bryce with us had never been on horseback before! Linda was in her element, however.

We joined the 1/2 day trip which lasted approximately 3 1/2 hours and took a group of us right into the heart of Bryce Canyon. We experienced the beauty up close, including such views as the Wall of Windows, The Chessmen, Silent City, and the Bristle Cone Pine Trees.

We talked to our neighbors and followed up at the Visitor Center on our way to the canyon. Both recommended we stop and see the natural caves that frequent the hillsides, so we found Mammoth Cave--a popular cave which was formed by cooling lava and water. It has five entrances and over 2,100 feet of passages. Also Ice Cave, which boasts solid ice in its interior all year long. Seven species of bats frequent the caves.

The Ice Cave is located on the road behind the Duck Creek Visitor Center.  This cave is small with only one chamber, but it has snow and icicles in it all year round.  The cave is wet and slippery. Climbing into the cave takes careful descent by rope.

Ascending from the cave is made easier by rope. Linda did awesome. She is a mountain climber and explorer at heart.
