the high peak
The note was just five lines, 93 words or 396 characters. I was glad to hear from my son, of course, but I was enthralled to learn of his true passion. Momentum, challenge, commitment, taking on challenge. It introduced me into a world I had heard about but never really imagined. I'm not sure that I comprehend it still. Just learning about these human shields has been life changing. I wanted to enshrine their words, their wisdom: "Anything worth having doesn't come easy." I am grateful to my son, the high peak of my life "We are capable of so much more than we can ever imagine, and much more."
Alex Honnold, Tommy Caldwell, Steph Davis, Kevin Jorgeson ... There is a difference between endurance and resilience: endurance is about holding on, resilience is about letting go. I am still learning from their example, commitment and love for life. They help kindle my passion, the high peak of my life.

In this sense, Honnold’s specialty — free-soloing — is a distillation of the entire climbing world’s collective fantasy life.
