3/11/22 - Left Palm Beach area / Destination Fort Lauderdale area
Packing up always takes much more time than we expect it to. It's a lot to breakdown and pack, plus the time added helping the kids to stay entertained and juggling their needs. Today, we barely got out of there by noon! It is always a struggle no matter how organized we are, but we did it and were on our way… to the unknown. Today was the first time we didn’t really know where we were going. We have no definite plans until Sunday so we headed in the direction of that eventual destination, South, to see where the day took us. Everyone was hungry when we left so grabbing some food was top priority, but the boys all fell asleep quickly so we just kept on driving. We decided to go to Fort Lauderdale to see what it is all about. Turns out it was not the scene for us. (Although it does have some very cool things about it like these beautiful waterways leading yachts right up to peoples houses.) But we skipped past Fort Lauderdale Beach after doing a drive by on the A1A and found a state park a bit more South. It was called Dr. Von D. Mizell-Eula Johnson State Park in Dania and was a much better fit for a family like ours. The water was bright blue and the beach was narrow and shallow. We spent a couple hours there before everyone got hungry again. Nick fished and caught one small fish. |
We chased birds and jumped over waves. While Nick was fishing I took the boys across the street to a park. Before we left, Nick and I had cold outdoor showers because we weren’t able to fit a shower in before leaving the campground this morning. Then we loaded up the van to find dinner and a place to park for the night. We drove past a pizza place that looked yummy, so we had pizza from there, and then found a cozy parking spot at Walmart so post up in for the night. Everyone was asleep before we even set up their beds so we just transferred everyone and had a great night.
