Today was the day Gram and Grandpa arrived! We woke up bright and early and started the morning as we usually do with breakfast and bike riding. Nick watched the boys so I could go shower and then I hung out with them while Nick went fishing from the marina (in our campground) on the paddle board. He started the laundry on his way there and I took the boys to the pool and switched laundry into the dryer on our way. As we were walking there Grandpa texted “We’re here!” They were just out side the gates of our campground! They parked the car and we greeted them. We were so excited to have them here! They came to help us with our laundry as we caught up. They brought some yummy custard mini fruit pies for the boys. Then they came to the pool with us. Ozzy and Fitz swam for a little while then Nick walked by and joined us. We eventually made our way to our campsite to show them our place while we’re here. They stayed and chatted while Enzo napped and we made a plan for the rest of the day. It was about lunch time when Enzo started to |
stir. Gram and Grandpa went to their place to change and we picked them up in the van to go on a drive to see more of the Keys. We headed toward 7-mile bridge first about 1 hour 18 minutes away. The whole drive was beautiful. It’s so cool to be surrounded by more water than land on the highway! We arrived at the 7-mile bridge and drove across the whole thing. Then turned around and drove back across it. So cool! Once we were back on the other side we parked and got out to walk a portion of the “Old Bridge” which was another really cool way to see it. Then we all hopped in the van on our way to Sombrero beach. As we were driving we realized we were all pretty hungry so we looked for something to eat. We passed a few Cuban restaurants and thought it would be fun to try one. The first one we stopped at was closed but then we found another one not far away. It had outdoor seating right off the highway and there were chickens roaming around. I haven’t been to Cuba, but at that restaurant if felt like we could have been there. The food was good and the portions were huge! We ate and then drove a few more miles down the road to Sombrero beach. There was a children’s park right off of the beach which of course the kids were excited about. They played there for a while and then we all walked down the coast line on the beach to a dock on the end. Enzo was asleep in my arms. Boats were driving by and the sun was getting lower and lower in the sky. It was beautiful. After a while we decided we better get back on the road because we still had an hour drive back to Key Largo. Fitz and Enzo fell asleep on the drive. We dropped Gram and Grandpa off at their place and then went back to ours and turned in for the night.
