friend to all

I met Clay when we moved to American Fork. He served in the same ward that we attended. His wife, Kip, is a friendly and outgoing person, and they made us feel right at home. Then, in 2006, tragedy struck. Clay was working in the American Fork Hospital, where he had a stroke and died. His death shocked us, and particularly his wife and family. He was a friend to all and loved by everyone who met him. He was gone before I got to know him really well. But it did not take long to feel his friendship and enjoy his enthusiasm. He was employed with Lone Peak Anesthesia and worked as a nurse anesthetist at the American Fork Hospital. Clay is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was serving as Elders Quorum President in our ward at the time.

One young lady who was brand new in the YW Program had been impressed with Kip and Clay about 15 years prior and shared her thoughts in the guest book:

You and Clay participated in a Young Women's activity... I remember you two being fun newlyweds and so in love! During the activity, you and Clay... read personal journal entries about finding your eternal companions. The room was peaceful with soft lighting from lamps. The spirit was so strong, and your message was perfect. I remember thinking at that time that I wanted to have the very same thing. I was specifically impressed with Clay and the obvious love and compassion he had for you. I wanted to find an eternal companion that would cherish me as well.

Thanks to you and Clay, you left a very large impression on one young girl's life who has since found her very own sweetheart and eternal companion. Our little family of four is very grateful for your powerful examples.

I think that is much the way we all felt about Clay. We remember him as a fun and loving person.
