<tributes to john glover

Naturally, we have come together to remember and reminisce John Michael Glover. We have discussed many things about who John is and why he is an important part of our lives. But let's talk for just a moment about what John wasn't.
John was not the actor John Soursby Glover, Jr., born in 1944. When you share a name with an actor, however, the Internet casts a shadow on ever finding something about the less well-known.
John was not a husband or a father. Neither was John unduly proud, or spiteful or mean or vindictive.
He loved using his imagination and reading about fantasy and the supernatural, but more importantly John was a friend, a nephew, son, brother, and a good man who faced challenges fearlessly. He wanted to be good. He struggled ambitiously through a life that dealt him a difficult hand, yet he persisted.
And when his options were few, and his fate was nearly sealed, John texted me and asked me to come and give him a blessing, which I did with Brent. I gratefully had the opportunity to help. At John's request, we administered to him Sunday, September 30th. Things did not look good. He was ill, out of work, and without money or hope. Frankly, he had no idea of his options. Bleak pretty much sums up the circumstance at the time. Despite a difficult situation financially and logistically, he was promised in his blessing that the Lord would prepare a way, and literally just days later, he found himself in the internationally-recognized Huntsman Cancer Institute, one of an elite group of premier cancer centers across the nation.
Imagine that.
The near instantaneous care he received there in-and-of-itself was a miracle. But the doctors and nurses did all they could do given his condition and sent him home to complete his final days. Robyn's email informed family members about his condition. But John asked her not to send it to me. He wanted to tell me himself about his worsening condition.
I am not really sure why. I didn't ask him, but I have imagined that he was fearful of telling me that despite our best efforts, the blessing didn't work. He was still sick, and his fate was uncertain. There was no way out of his difficult circumstance.
Well, on this special day remembering John, I wish to convey that the wonderful imagination, fantasy, and supernatural powers that John enjoyed reading about are no match to the power of God. Today, John is free from pain and hardship and mingling with loved ones, including his dear friend Grandpa.
He was far from perfect—John acknowledged that—but he was willing and hopeful, quiet and soft spoken. Now he lovingly waits for us to join him.
And those are just a few of the unique qualities that make him great.
I can only imagine.
John will yet be a husband and a father. He will be righteously proud and useful and gentle and joyful. The challenges he faced in a difficult world will be but a memory of a life well-lived.
Because of the great plan of happiness and the Atonement of Jesus Christ, all things work together for the good of them that love and serve God.
Did you know that John and I share his name. Yes, that is also my middle name. We share the name John with some really great people:
John S Stucki
John Taylor
John H Groberg
John the Beloved
We love and miss you John, but now we have one more name to add to that list of faithful men we admire. And because of the Savior Jesus Christ, our parting is temporary, our heartache eased, and our future together again assured.
Now just imagine that.
In the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
