Granny - "Get the water boiling before you pick the corn."

Mom always reminded us that the fructose in the corn began turning to starch just minutes after the corn was picked. So to enjoy the optimal, sweet cob of corn, we boiled the water before we picked the corn so we could shuck and steam it immediately after picking. That way, we enjoyed the most delicious sweet corn ever.

This lesson is true in life as well. We prepare now so that we can enjoy fully the good things in life that bring hope, courage, confidence and charity to all men. Faith in Jesus Christ is fundamental to our experiencing fully the joy of these values and must be nurtured before we come to a complete understanding of their purpose.
