letters from dad

Fam,
It was so good to see you all for the Christmas party. I believe that family gatherings give us a glimpse into heaven and the blessings which await us there. Thanks to all of you for your support and participation signing up to help bring food.

Today, I want to share with you one of my favorite messages. It carries that label and honor for a number of reasons, including a couple I mention below:
  • Though this is one of Elder Holland's most notable and memorable discourses (at least for me), he follows his sweet wife Patricia and starts his message by saying "Well whatever I say now is irrelevant." Somehow, there is a sermon in those seven words and his devotion to her.
  • The difficulty that you experience in life helps provide the appreciation and joy, which you feel. Inconvenience may turn out to be a pearl of great price.
  • Lastly, your mother and I had the good fortune of hearing from President Holland (at the time) every week and his wife Patricia frequently. With the amazing technology of our day, you can too. So enjoy...

This message includes some of my favorite stories, and when you hear them, I wager that they will become some of yours as well. Your capacity is greater than you realize. You often take on very inconvenient troubles. Bless you for that.

The last 6 minutes and 22 seconds of the talk (33:18) is a favorite part for me. For just a moment, I feel that I am with my dad again... I love that feeling.

It's the same way I feel when I am with each one of you.

I love you, dad
