Combine two of the most sought-after National Parks into one day of sightseeing and exploring, we filled the weekend with full-day excursions to Arches and Canyonlands National Parks near Moab, Utah.
Greg, Liane, and Dallan were the perfect guests. Mathew, Linda, and Emily experienced new and exciting adventures as well. Each day we returned to the elegant Sunflower Hill, which is located three blocks from downtown Moab on a quiet residential street. The Inn features two beautifully restored buildings, the historic Ranch House and spacious Garden Cottage.

We explored Dead Horse Point and Canyonlands National Park on our way home. Hikes included Mesa Arch and Grand View Point Overlook. Though the hikes were manageable, the hot sun and midday heat made for an adventurous outing. A drink of fresh water took on new importance and renewed meaning.
On our way out of the park we stopped for ice cream to cool off. Ahhh. Subway sandwiches in Price and wait for it...water. Photos We drove through the Arches stopped and hiked to Delicate Arch and later Landscape Arch. The windows were miraculous and Double Arch my favorite. I have been to the Arches a hundred times, rhetorically speaking, and I never get tired of it. So many places to go, sites to see, and things to do. I guess that's why we've been going there for 30 years and keep going back.
Drove down to Moab in Greg's truck. Visited shops in Moab a bit. Porter Rockwell Ranch and dirt bikes.
Went to park by the Colorado river bridge for lunch. Mom made chicken salad sandwiches on croissants. Drove up the river road to Castle Valley and told our story. Explored the lower valley and our property, then to the end of the paved road and returned along Colorado river. Dropped our things off at the B&B and walked around shops in town for a little while. Checked in to the hotel. Swam. Now we are off to the hummer trip. Dallin had a football game, so Greg's brother drove him to Moab and made it just in time. Thrilling hummer sunset excursion and dinner at Kat's favorite place - Thai restaurant on Center. Jacuzzi and bed at 11. |
