Our itinerary included a drive to Barcelona on the coast of the Mediterranean. We saw many interesting parts of Spain this way including the coast and small, windy roads, cathedrals, and quaint villages of all types along the way. When we arrived in Barcelona, the hand of Antoni Gaudí was evident everywhere. Gaudi designed the infamous Sagrada Familia as well as the Park Gruël, a favorite landmark for locals and visitors.
Gaudi found much of his inspiration and meaning in architecture by following the patterns of nature using the beauty that he saw as a gift from God as the ultimate blueprint to the world. Gaudi himself once said originality consists by going back to the origins. His magnum opus the Sagarada Familia began construction over 135 years ago is a technical masterpiece and still under construction.
This infamous building is a masterpiece in and out. Seeing the light cascading from the millions of light rays produced by the pane-glass on all sides of the cathedral is breathtaking. The massive columns and structural arches imitate nature and denote the architectural genius of Gaudi. (extra)
Less well-known to me but apparently infamous around the world is Park Gruël. Amazing.

The local markets were a favorite for the many Spanish residents and for us This photo captures a moment played over hundreds of times every day

While visiting Barcelona, we stayed at the Sagrada Familia Apartment, which was literally across the street from the massive cathedral.
I sent you information about the three locations we will be staying at during our trip. Plaza de España Skyline the first two nights in Madrid. Sagrada Familia Apartment the next 3 nights in Barcelona. Hotel Nuevo Boston was imply luxurious the last night in Madrid. Hopefully you can access the detailed information of each of those places. Bob made all the arrangements prior to our trip to Spain. I think these locations were great. The first one is very close to the Madrid metro and has on-site parking for the vehicle we rented. The apartment in Barcelona is literally across the street from La Sagrada Familia cathedral. Views from the living room are spectacular. It also has on site parking and is very close to the Barcelona metro. The last hotel in Madrid is very close to the airport and also has on site parking. The accommodations have free cancellation and don't require pre payment. We walked or took the Metro when within the cities, and Bob was our chauffer between them. He did all the driving thankfully. It turns out that we put a mere 2500 miles on our rental car. |
