If anyone has left his mark on Barcelona it was architect Antoni Gaudí (1852-1926). His absolute masterpiece is of course the world-famous Basílica de la Sagrada Família. The Sagrada Familia receives roughly 4.5 million visitors each year, each of whom pays between $19-$43 per visit. Barcelona officials estimate that an additional 20 million take in the building from its grounds outside.
Barcelona is also famous for its fountains. This water source beautifies all areas within the city, and the gothic style is situated near the Basilica of Saints Justus and Pastor, the golden water taps, and infamous classy display timed to a musical discourse with lights, which we were lucky enough to see live.

We stopped in this area and saw Segovia from a distance--it's easy to love

While visiting Barcelona, we stayed at the Sagrada Familia Apartment, which was literally across the street from the massive cathedral.
I sent you information about the three locations we will be staying at during our trip. Plaza de España Skyline the first two nights in Madrid. Sagrada Familia Apartment the next 3 nights in Barcelona. Hotel Nuevo Boston was imply luxurious the last night in Madrid. Hopefully you can access the detailed information of each of those places. Bob made all the arrangements prior to our trip to Spain. I think these locations were great. The first one is very close to the Madrid metro and has on-site parking for the vehicle we rented. The apartment in Barcelona is literally across the street from La Sagrada Familia cathedral. Views from the living room are spectacular. It also has on site parking and is very close to the Barcelona metro. The last hotel in Madrid is very close to the airport and also has on site parking. The accommodations have free cancellation and don't require pre payment. We walked or took the Metro when within the cities, and Bob was our chauffer between them. He did all the driving thankfully. It turns out that we put a mere 2500 miles on our rental car. |
